AgriFI Annual Report 2022
As we launch the Annual Report for AgriFI in 2022, I am honoured to reflect on the remarkable journey this organization has undertaken. I joined EDFI Management Company at the end of 2022, and I stand here with immense pride, witnessing the fruit of the labour of a dedicated team and the impactful work of my predecessors. AgriFI, an EU-funded facility managed by EDFI Management Company together with the European Development Finance Institutions (EDFIs), has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to sustainable agriculture and agri-businesses in developing countries.
In the current geopolitical context, AgriFI remains steadfast in its mission. With a EUR 120 million facility at our disposal, we are determined to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and resilient food systems. Our primary focus remains on supporting small-scale farming and sustainable food systems, as these are cornerstones of sustainable development.
The essence of AgriFI’s additionality lies in the concept of “blended finance.” We understand that to create meaningful change, it is crucial to engage multiple stakeholders in a concerted effort. By working closely with EDFIs, we have successfully combined our efforts to create a powerful synergy that propels our projects toward success.
We recognize that, often, companies operating in the “missing middle” find themselves neglected by commercial banks and international investors. AgriFI steps in to fill this crucial gap by providing the funding necessary for these companies to thrive. In doing so, we prove the feasibility and profitability of sustainable practices and, what is more, we contribute to market creation.
AgriFI’s approach to sustainability is multi-faceted. We support ventures that are not only financially viable but also environmentally and socially responsible. Our projects are selected with a keen eye on their ability to generate lasting positive change, for businesses and for entire communities. Sustainability is not a buzzword for us; it’s a guiding principle that underscores every investment decision we make. Our goal is not just providing financial support but also to fostering a culture of sustainable practices and responsible business in the agri-business sector.
